What is a Perfect Plate?
After working with Brazilian nutritionist Carla Faedo, I introduced the “Prato Feito,” a beloved classic carioca plate with rice and beans, to my daily life. Changing my lunch from a sad afterthought to an incredibly nourishing meal was the missing link after years of pursuing a healthier self.
My meals were designed around a bean each week, and incorporating this food into my diet was a game-changer. By focusing on components and multiple food groups, my kitchen became a well-oiled machine for rotating homemade whole foods.
My most significant act of self-care is my time in the kitchen, and these creative compositions I lovingly assemble are meant to inspire you to do the same.
About the Perfect Plate Series
By using perfect plate I ensure that my lunch contains fiber-rich beans and grains, protein, greens, and veggies. My gut and heart are happy with the variety and flavors.”
- Sabey A.
Boring meal prep be gone! I have loved this way of thinking about meals, challenging myself to think up various components and combinations for the plates.
-Kaitlyn S.
I eat this composition for lunch every day and have experienced improvements to my mood, lost a significant amount of weight, and feel the best I have ever felt, now in my 40s. With so many questions about my weight-loss journey as it unfolded on Instagram, I created this series to share my real kitchen and what I actually eat.
This biweekly series on The Rio Kitchen Substack shares inspiring Brazilian-style plates, everyday recipes, kitchen shortcuts, and wellness tips.
Paid subscribers enable me to build this community, take the time to write, edit, and photograph recipes, and ultimately prioritize the work of creating food content for this series and on all platforms. Your support is greatly appreciated!
