A Vegetarian Experience at Brota

 
 

What if I told you that one of my best gastronomic experiences in Rio was at a vegetarian restaurant 💚 @brota.restaurante leaves nothing to be desired, with signature drinks, natural wines, and an innovative menu. You all know that I love “plant-based” dining, but for anyone still exploring this culinary style, come here and you will be a convert. For the second year in a row Brota received the Bib Gourmand award from the Michelin Guide, deservedly so for its incredible hospitality, creative menu, and the TLC you experience dining here.

I had a hard time choosing what to eat, but I ordered the “brotinhas” to start, a pair of crispy brown rice cakes with a creamy risotto-like center layered with wasabi and mango chutney. We also tried the zucchini and goat cheese fritters, which felt comforting and tasted incredibly fresh. For our main course, we chose the Thai curry, a dish that appears to be trending in Rio. Here they got it right, with crunchy veggies, authentic Thai flavors, and a Brazilian twist of being served with a crumbly sesame “farofa.” We paired this experience with a Brazilian orange wine that harmonized perfectly with the gentle kick of spice and subtly sweet curry sauce. For dessert we could not resist the creamy tapioca, and I’m so glad we didn’t. Soft tapioca pearls, tangy passion fruit sauce, and a crumble of “pacoca,” a Brazilian peanut butter-like treat, made this composition pure genius.
