Season 4 Style + A Shopping Guide
I came here to share food, but questions flood in on the outfits… and I’m all for it. I recently had a chance to talk about how Brazilian style played a role in my reconnecting with home on my video with Balaco Rio. At the same time that my visits to Rio began, I was also entering my 40s, exiting a dark postpartum phase and processing the grief of having lost my last living parent—all at once. My wardrobe had gone bleak and I hadn’t even noticed.
On my first Farm Rio visit back in March 2023, I left gleeful and filled with extremely colorful, printed outfits. I loved how they felt so much I decided I wanted to wear them all the time, not just wait for an “occasion.” I found the younger me, the one who once adorned her adidas with pink laces and toted neon purses scored at artisan markets in Rio, London, and wherever I went. She inspired me with her fearlessness and reminded me I once creatively expressed myself through style—and that this was a huge part of my identity.
Through travel to Rio and right before your eyes in @theriokitchen my personal style blossomed. What a fun, unexpected, road on this journey home. Here are all the outfits from Season 4 and some in between.
My Rio Shopping Guide
Most of my favorite brands have stores at Shopping Leblon. Do not miss malls in Rio, they are beautiful, and the food courts are actually incredible. Here I visit Cantao, an iconic Rio brand, Lenny for swimsuits, Reserva for my husband, and Fabula, the Farm Rio label for kids (yes really).
Lola Feito a Mao is an adorable accessories brand with a lot of fun maximalist things, like these lobster earrings. You can shop them online, by Whatsapp (they deliver to you), or visit their collection in the curated store Carandai 25, also at Shopping Leblon.
I finally got to see Balaco’s collection IRL! It is available at Opiniao in Ipanema, a shop showing several small brands in one place.
The neighborhood alongside the botanical gardens hides some of the best boutiques of Rio, including Sardina, Andrea Muller, and Benta Studio.
My cousin insisted I visit Emi in Ipanema before I left. She was not wrong to send me there… with colorful patterns and stunning workmanship, I might have a new Rio fave.
Farm Rio stores are plentiful, but visiting the flagship store at Lagoa is a must! Stay for a minute and enjoy a snack at the juice shop downstairs.
